Art in Action: Inflate. Draw. Pour. | Louisiana Art & Science Museum

The act of making art was the focus of Art in Action which took place as part of Baton Rouge’s contribution to Prospect 3, New Orleans’s citywide contemporary art triennial. With the assistance of local artists and students, Jason Hackenwerth made two massive, suspended balloon works, each composed of about 20,000 colored balloons and weighing nearly 150 lbs. Using her body, Heather Hansen recorded her gestures to make six large charcoal drawings collectively titled Harmonic. Each was based on the shape of an atom necessary for human life. Hansen also presented a live “drawing” performance and donated the resultant work to LASM. Holton Rower rounded out the trio with his “pour paintings,” each composed of hundreds of colors of 50-plus gallons of poured paint.
